Myth or Fact?Open each card to see whether your instinct is right. MYTH. Never remove the battery. Open a window or door, use the alarm’s hush button, or move the alarm farther from the cooking area according to the manufacturer’s directions.
“My family should identify two ways out of every room.”
FACT. A second exit matters when smoke, heat, or fire blocks the first route. Choose an outside meeting place and practice getting there.
“It is safe to leave the kitchen briefly while food is frying.”
MYTH. Stay in the kitchen when frying, boiling, grilling, or broiling. If you leave, turn off the burner.
“Smoke alarms should be replaced when they are 10 years old.”
FACT. Check the manufacture date on the back of the alarm and replace alarms that are 10 years old.
